During the first quarter of the year 2002, a mycorhiza laboratory began operating at Finca El Faro.

This laboratory is dedicated to the identification and inoculation of mycorhiza fungi. Mycorhiza fungi are incorporated to the coffee plants root system, thus creating a symbiotic relationship between the mycelium of the fungi and the roots of the plant.

This symbiotic relationship creates a more efficient and tolerant root system, which in consequence depends less on the application of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
