Source of Energy

El Faro Estate has three sources of energy.

First, the power provided by DEOCSA (electric company), which is purchased by us paying a monthly fee during the entire year. Three 75 KVA transformers are available to provide power to all the houses and industrial facilities in the Estate.

If the power provided by DEOCSA fails or is insufficient, the company has a diesel-powered generator. Such generator produces a total of 150 KVA, exactly the same capacity generated by the DEOCSA transformers. It is worth mentioning that it is cheaper to use the DEOCSA service instead of the diesel generator. The power generator works as a second option in case of an emergency, and may provide electricity to all houses while satisfying the industrial demand of the entire operation. If the diesel powered generator is employed, consumption is approximately 5 gallons per hour at approximately Q.20 per gallon.

As a third source of energy, the company generates its own power through water resources, using a Hydro-electric generator. This water powered generator may generate approximately 45 KVA. This energy is employed year round in order to lower costs and employ renewable energy.
